Mexicana stops flying (Mexicana ceasing All Operations At MIDNIGHT EST)

Posted by admin / Under Travel Air

Debt-ridden airline Mexicana de Aviacion is halting all operations, Mexico's transportation secretary said Friday. Juan Francisco Molinar Horcasitas told reporters in Mexico City the struggling carrier will cease all flights and other activity as of midnight Friday night. Mexico's largest airline filed for bankruptcy protection in Mexico and the United States on Aug. 2 while it sought to reorganize itself. Three days later it announced that it had stopped selling tickets and then suspended some flights. In court filings, the company said it had been badly hit by the swine flu outbreak in 2009 that scared away travellers for months...

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Adam Goldstein was a whiz-kid MIT engineering student with an enviable network of tech contacts and a decade of industry experience. He also had a lofty dream: To reinvent Internet flight search. So he called up his old friend, Reddit co-founder Steve Huffman, and embarked on a summer project. It culminated in this week's launch of Hipmunk, which drew instant acclaim for its new approach to an old but still daunting search challenge: matching travel shoppers with flights. Hipmunk arranges flights on a colorful, user-friendly grid, letting browsers evaluate their options in a blink. Just days...

Airport Security in Boston: Perverts or Mere Child Predators?

Monday 6th of September 2010 06:48:12 AM
Posted by admin / Under Travel Air

I travel a lot for work. It has been that way for the past dozen years and will not change any time soon. Although I have probably been to just about every major city in the US, I had not been to Boston in decades until I went on a family vacation this past week. Flying into Boston was fine, but flying out of Boston's Logan's airport was a shock. For the first time I encountered the body scanners that are being adopted soon nationwide. In essence, you are pushed toward a black screen, told to put your hands above...

Oil spill visits get partisan.( More fascist tactics from Dems)

Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) wanted to fly 10 lawmakers down to the Gulf of Mexico to see the damage caused by BP’s gigantic oil spill first hand. House Democrats said no. Scalise’s trip was rejected for a variety of bureaucratic and logistical reasons, but it has also opened a new vein of partisan squabbling over who should be allowed to arrange a trip to view the impact of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. .....But Democrats have heard from the Department of Homeland Security, which has asked that Congress organize trips through committees of jurisdiction, to avoid having to cater to...

New York Controversy: A crackdown on "no-tels" (Vacation Rentals)

Monday 6th of September 2010 06:48:12 AM
Posted by admin / Under Travel Air

Hundreds of New Yorkers, like others nationwide, have been making a few extra dollars by using sites such as AirBnB, Crashpadder, Roomorama, and Craigslist to sublet pullout sofas, living rooms, and whole apartments. But that may end soon. This week, New York state senators vote on a bill that would make it illegal for any homeowner or renter to sublet for less than a month. The new law would be a blanket ban on short-term rentals no matter how ethical the renter is. (It's always been illegal to violate co-op leases and condominium bylaws.) This proposed law is bad news...

A New Adventure

Wow. It's been over a year since I've last posted anything related to ER nursing. It's been a busy time for me, loaded with change. To spare the gory details, I will cut to the chase. I have changed jobs. After eight years with the same organization, I found that a combination of leadership changes (for the worse) and "hitting the ceiling" as far as my position and pay are concerned have led me to cast my gaze towards the horizon regarding my profession. At the same time, I had been courted rather aggressively by a number of travel nurse...

A long train ride will make you think

Monday 6th of September 2010 06:48:12 AM

I just returned from a trip to see a friend in Baltimore, heading north and returning south by way of an Amtrak train. Basically a day’s worth of travel both ways, it was an experience I don’t think I’ll forget. My first impression as we moved from Greensboro east to Rocky Mount was that the world of the train line can be likened to the “innards” of America. It oftentimes passes the unglamorous portions of our society and along its route you’ll see other sometimes defunct and decrepit organs, but those which are nevertheless still vital to the overall existence...

Summer travelers may discover a world of pain

Monday 6th of September 2010 06:48:12 AM

Skyrocketing airfares, new rules governing flight delays and clogged roads for drivers threaten to make this a summer of discontent for anyone with a yen for travel. With the economy recovering and the employment outlook more secure, people are again plotting summer adventures. They could be in for a rough ride. Demand for air travel appears likely to far outstrip the available supply of airline seats, making this a bad summer for bargain hunters and travelers with short fuses. Travel experts predict most flights will be sold out as families take their vacation getaways during June and July. "Consumers can...

Iceland volcano dormant, no ash coming out

Monday 6th of September 2010 06:48:12 AM
Posted by admin / Under Travel Air

(Reuters) - An Icelandic volcano that caused air traffic chaos after erupting last month has gone dormant but it is too early to declare the eruption over, an official said Monday. Airlines across Europe stopped flying for days after the volcano under the Eyjafjallajakull glacier erupted in mid-April, spewing high levels of ash. Ash particles can cause serious damage if absorbed into airplane engines. Icelandic meteorological office geographer Sigthrudur Armannsdottir said the volcano, about 120 km southeast of the capital Reykjavik, was now showing only minimal signs of life. "There is no ash coming up and no lava," she told...

Five ways to avoid passport delays By Catholic Online5/10/2010Catholic Online (www.catholic.org) If there is some exotic locale in your travel plans for the immediate future, you'll need to pack more than your toothbrush, suntan lotion and a favorite novel in your carry-on bag. You'll need a United States passport, the all-critical key to successful travel beyond U.S. borders. New government travel rules that went into effect in 2007 require that all U.S. citizens have a valid passport when traveling by air to and from Bermuda, the Caribbean, Mexico and Canada. This legislative change resulted in unprecedented demand for passports over...
